The text is roughly based on Celtic tree and bird oghams (sacred alphabets) as represented in The White Godess by Robert Graves. The four sequences of conjoined bird and tree more or less represent the four seasons of the year; but the underlying message is that we should seek grace and wisdom, and live by them.
